Welcome back from Thailand
Welcome back from Thailand, Tamaryn. How are you feeling after your Miss Universe adventure?
I'm overwhelmed with joy. Achieving first runner up at Miss Universe has left me with a proud and happy heart. I have grown exceptionally throughout the journey and plan on applying these life lessons in my future endeavours.
You made South Africa unbelievably proud during your time in Thailand. What would you want the world to know about your Rainbow Nation?
People of South Africa are strong and resilient. Having so many different cultures, religions, languages and backgrounds to draw from is what makes us special and even stronger. I could not have achieved first runner up without the amazing support from my people.
What moment during the Miss Universe competition stood out to you the most during your 2-weeks in Thailand?
The night of the Preliminary competition. The first time walking on that stage I felt abundantly blessed and happy to be there. I knew the time had come for God's plan to take place in my life.
Being surrounded by women from so many countries and cultures for 2-weeks must have been an experience. What will you take away from your time with the 94 other contestants?
That no matter where we come from, or what language we speak we are all human. We all want to do our best, be loved and belong. Love is the universal language.
You were the first to be called out in the top 20 during the finale, what was going through your mind when you were standing on the Miss Universe stage?
At first it was joy and excitement. So much anticipation as to who would be joining me in the top 20. Later, I was very much focused on hiding how much my feet were hurting standing for so long, because that came as part of the package of with called first! Ha-ha!
What message do you have for young women who want to represent South Africa on the Miss Universe stage?
It is one of the greatest honours to have the privilege of representing your country on an international stage such as Miss Universe, but it does not come without hard work and dedication. So be prepared for that.
We are so glad you are home, and can't wait to see what is in store for you for the remainder of 2019!
